house updates
The new house is starting to feel like a home.
I’m feeling super settled and happy in my green haven. The first few months have been a lot of projects (my favorite), and a little exhausting managing this between work and travel and life.
Thankfully I seem to have gotten the first construction issue out of the way. The mezzanine level glass and stairwell glass was installed week one. But of course they hit an AC tube that caused a big leak in my ceiling. Yay, homeownership. Thankfully this was on the previous owners, so it was fixed on their dime. Which made the week with a hole in my ceiling a little bit more bareable.
A major difference living outside of the US is the limited shipping culture — and arguably consumerism….
Anywho, this translated to me having to be VERY patient with ordering and delivering furniture. Plus with “summer holidays,” there were some serious time lags…
Then you also have to be home in order to receive your items.
But once they arrived —- it felt SOOOO good to get everything setup an in its new place.
living room: couch, ceiling fan, lighting and coffee table
dining room
We spend a ton of time in the kitchen - so finding a cute and functional dining table was a must. The added bonus of a hidden leaf is making my dinner and brunch hosting dreams a reality! I decided not to hang things on this big wall (for now) but instead added a free standing shelving piece for plants, photos, rocks and more!
After three months of false starts, the cabinet guy arrived, and what an install time was had. He drove up in his minivan blasting 90s techno with the remaining cabinets in the back. He was super sweet as we both struggled to speak Portuguese as a second language but shared the common love of music.
primary bedroom
After six weeks living in my house, I finally got to sleep in my bedroom! It was a real struggle to get my mattress delivered, so I was truly lying in wait. IKEA for the win with their consistent/on-time deliveries.
It’s been fun to sort through the boxes and get the room configured — it’s a super peaceful room. Soon enough, there will be something on the walls. hah.
garden
The garden is coming together, with all our plant babies making it through the move. We even got to harvest some potatoes, beets, tomatoes, and okra! The sunshade is helping, and longer term, I have pergola dreams. But it is really nice to have an unobstructed view of the stars. There are dreams of a hammock :)
